Definition:

strategic business unit (SBU) is a profit center which focuses on product offering and market segment. SBUs typically have a discrete marketing plan, analysis of competition, and marketing campaign, even though they may be part of a larger business entity.

Diversification is an asset allocation plan, which properly allocates assets among different types of investment. Investors accept a certain level of risk, but they also need to have an exit strategy, if their investment does not generate the expected return.
