Definition
Impediment in Software development, is anything that slows down the team from delivering the intended result, or output. It can be any issue, like lack of resources, bugs in the source code, a team member falling ill and so on.

Hackathon | Glossary

Definition
Hackathon is an event in a scrum team, where individual members are allowed to create their own code, features, or other materials of their choice. It generally lasts an entire iteration, and is built into a release schedule.

Origin
The term has been created independently by both the developers of OpenBSD, and the marketing team of Sun. These usages both first happened in 1999.
