Embark with Okaloa Flowlab

[ Increase engagement during a lean-agile transformation using Okaloa simulations ]

04 - 05 December 2022

2 Day Workshop

Bengaluru

CLOSED

Overview

Experience and learn about a cool new way to unlock the full potential of people while introducing new ways of working.

Okaloa Flowlab is a new, experiential, way of teaching and coaching agility that involves the entire organization. In a philosophy of “practice before theory”, it allows participants to experience old and new ways of organizing work through simulations. By not being restricted to a particular type of work it speaks to all functions (HR, Marketing, IT, …); by including a whole range of simulations (team, cross-team, value-stream, portfolio, …) it speaks to all levels of the organization.

During this Embark workshop participants will simulate different business scenarios to practice how to organize work at team level. It allows participants to experience the result of resource efficiency and to understand flow efficiency at team level. The outcome is a better understanding about agile practices enabling value creation with collaboration and learning to adapt.

This training sheds a different light on lean agile thinking. It is targeted at any lean agile trainers, coaches and practitioners interested in deepening their knowledge about lean agile. The Okaloa Flowlab simulations use Kanban to visualise flow. During real-to-life simulation sessions participants will come across different forms and types of limiting WIP, time-boxing and collaboration policies.

This is a hands-on and interactive course designed to experience and develop mastery over lean agile.

Agenda

Research has shown that people learn the most through experience, not by overloading the rational brain with mind-boggling theories and practices of lean agile methods.

1. Agile Practice Theory

  • A practice … is like what?
  • An ability … is like what?
  • Friction between practices (at team level, between teams and between upstream and downstream)
  • Flow – freedom to evolve, not only flow of work but also flow of ideas and information
  • Constraints as catalysts
  • Keystone practices to bootstrap
  • Action drives perception

2. Experience resource efficiency

  • Experience the old way of working (resource efficiency simulation - Team Flow Round 1)
  • Do a retrospective and prepare a root cause analysis

3. From resource to flow-efficiency

  • Discuss observations and root causes
  • From blaming to understanding
  • Develop an understanding of and internalise the “system of work”
  • Experience a new way of working (flow efficiency simulation - Team Flow round 2)

4. Teaching for mastery

  • Going beyond the well-known recipes
  • Understanding variations and connections
  • Different perspectives on learning and teaching
  • Constraint-enabled learning (the game-changer!)
  • Making the connections (flow/collaboration/learning)
  • Learning with Okaloa Flowlab, from push to pull

Learning Objective

  • Learn how to use Okaloa Flowlab simulations to fundamentally transform your way of teaching
  • Be able to use Okaloa Flowlab simulations in your own teaching classes
  • Learn how Okaloa Flowlab simulations are an enabler to increase the engagement of people while teaching new ways of working (like Kanban)
  • Deepen your understanding of Kanban systems and improve your Kanban training and facilitation skills
  • Learn how to make your KSD (online) training way more interactive and experiential
  • Learn about the foundations of experiential learning (the training itself is a deep experience in experiential learning)

Audience

  • It is targeted at any lean agile trainers, coaches and practitioners interested in deepening their knowledge about lean agile. People of all functions and all levels in the organization have participated in Okaloa Flowlab workshops with a high level of engagement and learning, changing the way they think about and manage their work.
  • Accredited Kanban Trainers While Okaloa Flowlab is used by many to teach agile thinking in general, it is especially powerful for teaching Kanban. Kanban trainers and coaches world-wide have been using Okaloa Flowlab simulations to experientially teach Kanban and The Kanban Method. Accredited Kanban Trainers (AKT) that want to learn how to make the difference with an experiential learning style that is founded on social psychology and systems thinking. Previous AKTs who attended the training have expressed that it has been an eye-opener and that the simulations, more than any rational teaching, have given them a more profound understanding of Kanban.

Prerequisite

  • None
